ABC / 'θi ne

ABC / 'θi ne / sound installation. Electronic sound loop composed from the recording of sounds generated by a 16 mm projector’s mechanism, a 16 mm projector and a laptop.

Sound installation / 16 mm projector / laptop / Sound loop 2:30 min

/ 'θi ne / is the phonetic transcription of the word Cine (Cinema in Spanish).
ABC / 'θi ne / is an electronic loop composed from the recording of sounds generated by a 16 mm projector. The composition thinks around a genealogy of digital cinema technology, as one that does not reveal its own mechanism from the sounds it emits. Unlike the analogue film projector, which manifests its mechanism loudly, these mechanical sounds have disappeared from our imagination, now that we are in a predominantly electronic environment. From Marshall Mclluhan’s perspectives, the actual technologies used for Cinema, correspond to a sophistication and adaptation of the previous ones into a new digital environment. ABC / 'θi ne / has been composed as an analogy of this evolution from the mechanical (analog and fragmented) to the electronic (digital and discrete).

The installation requires a 16 mm projector running without film and projecting its light mechanism into a laptop screen, from which the sound composition is played. Spectators must sit in front of this laptop and use headphones to listen to it.

As the composition goes, the screen of the laptop turns from black to white. As if the screen was turning on by itself, evoking a cosmic time-space movement.

The publication is composed of 5 booklets, one that portraits and explains the experience and other four that hold the results for each archaeological site.

The project was made with the support of the grant for Cultural projects 2019 given by the Ministry of Culture from Peru. This publication dialogues with 4 audiovisual short films that will also explain and share the experience and results.

El mismo sol, anderes Licht

Year: 2023
Super 8 mm loop b&n reversal, 6 min, 1m x 80 cm, cyanotype print, blue pailleten.

In this installation, I show a collage in which I converge all of these testimonies including mine. I print it with the cyanotype technique, which only works with the sunlight, to bring a process which doesn’t function as an exact reproduction. I create a fake and playful “historical” picture in response to the expectations of seeing a truth in them. I placed all the interpretations they did about the “deities” in the island in the landscape, to free them from the categorization boxes, but also in our present, to visualize the absurdity of their dragon-demon interpretations. This print becomes the back screen of a S8 projection, in which I bring together my testimony in these two territories: Koati and NRW, Germany, the landscape and the persistence of mining in our everyday lives. I sew by hand  strips of sequins to resemble the water from the Lake and its shiness.
