El mismo sol, otra luz
After emigrating to Germany, I reencountered Super 8 mm analogue images I filmed on the Island of the Moon in Lake Titicaca. To experience these images in my new context opened up the relationship between mining exploitation and the creation of images. I weaved a sensorial journey that confronts and contrasts territories and bodies of water which are constantly exploited and these associations happen transcending a linear time-space. The film was also filmed in some RWE energy plants in NRW and it approaches some visual imaginaries of the Island of the moon written in the Copacabana de los Incas by Jesus Vizcarra and the scientific text The islands of Titicaca and Koati by Adolph Bandelier. These two books brought me to the Ibero Amerikanisches Institut in Berlin which also became an evidence of the connections in between Nations states and the centralization of knowledge.

Intento mirarlas
When I encountered Cine Íntimo’s collection of Peruvian home movies, I felt a kinship with the women who appear in these films. Suddenly, I couldn’t help but see myself reflected as a cis woman and wonder about the gender roles of past eras and certain social classes—roles that still persist but that I myself do not (entirely) embody. My distanced gaze creates an interpretation of them through a rhythmic observation to evoke a sense of rupture, drawing from the reality of these women’s lives documented in an intimate setting. Who is watching them—do they watch you? In this film, I approach a certain gaze through the amateur camera.
This project is part of the collective film correspondence 14 Variations on the Intimate, organized by MUTA in 2021.

[En Tre] Fuego incesante
Two circular landscapes built out of layers of personal images recorded during a traumatic trip. Abstraction of pain and memory. I interpret the experience of deepening into the winds and waters of my memory and affection. Inner landscape. Inspired by the philosophy of Heraclitus and Zen, the film is based in the existential ideas related to the phenomena of nature, but applied to personal memory and to the experience with images along our existence.

Con cierto animal
Animals, Humans, Earth, Wind, and Water converge with the same energy as a cinematic fire, which traverses and connects them. Through the appropriation of educational and religious images from 16 mm films, “Con cierto Animal” evokes a poetic collision between images of the human and the animal, opening up interstices to imbue them with new meanings.
